Causonomy

In practice

What a closed causal field changes for an organisation, stated as consequences rather than benefits.

Problems stop being reopened

Most recurring failures are not new failures. They are the same failure whose actual cause was never in the set the team considered, so the corrective action addressed something else. When the set is derived rather than generated, a cause can be excluded on evidence instead of overlooked by omission — and an investigation can say, with a reason, that it is finished.

Diagnosis stops depending on who is in the room

Experience decides outcomes in conventional problem solving: the causes considered are the causes someone has seen before. That makes quality of diagnosis a function of tenure, and it makes knowledge leave when people leave. A derived field is the same field for a graduate and a veteran. The experienced engineer still eliminates faster; both start from everything.

Cross-domain failures become tractable

Failures rarely respect departmental boundaries: a stock shortage traces back through purchasing, a quality escape back through a standard nobody withdrew. Because the structure is domain-independent, the chain does not break when it crosses from maintenance into procurement into quality. The vocabulary changes; the reasoning does not.

Audit and assurance gain a basis

An audit that samples what it thought to sample can report findings but cannot report coverage. Against a derived field it becomes possible to say which parts of the causal space have been examined and which have not — a statement about the audit itself, not only about what it found.

What it does not do

Causonomy does not supply evidence, and it does not decide which admissible cause is the actual one. It bounds the space and structures the elimination; the facts still have to be gathered, and the judgement is still a person's. It replaces brainstorming, not investigation.

Applied form. The reasoning is implemented as an engine, which LOGOSOPH licenses for use within defined domains. LOGOI is the implementation for company diagnostics.
